This fine 19th c house with over 12 acres of land once belonged to a wine-grower, which seems odd today when we know that the house is not far from Autun, well known for its magnificent Roman monuments and its cathedral close - but hardly for its wine. The living area, as with so many such houses, is on the upper floor, with the ground floor taken up by a large old kitchen/dining room, a series of cellars and storage rooms, two of which have been turned into a sauna and a central heating room (gas central heating). On the floor above, reached either by internal stairs or else by a splendid double staircase/balcony overlooking the garden, a large long living room, with period fireplaces and ceiling roses, a modern kitchen, dining room, WC. At either end of the original living space two annexes have been incorporated into the house, one a bedroom and bathroom, the other a large music room, while on the top floor are three more bedrooms and two more bathrooms. By way of outbuildings, an old bread oven and a large former barn, part of which is used as a garage. The garden is formal in outline, with clipped yew and box and lawn, but informal in atmosphere with a cheerful profusion of plants and trees. The land, mostly rented out to a local farmer, ensures that there will be no obstacle to the peaceful and distant views over the countryside.
